Why should I buy a Rail Ryder system?
Because one mishap in transporting a vehicle could pay for the system. With conventional trailering methods, the failure of just one strap may cause your car to migrate into the trailer wall.
Can I transport my low sports car?
Yes, our 4º loading angle is the lowest in the industry. A typical tailgate door is a 13º angle. With the self-storing gate extension, we have reduced the angle to less than 4º permitting easy loading of low, wide challenging cars.
Can Rail Ryder be installed in an existing trailer?
Yes, call for retrofit details.
How is the car secured onto the trolleys?
By over-the-wheel straps.
How do I tighten wheel and trolley straps?
With a Rail Ryder-supplied custom 1-1/8” Gearwrench. The Gearwrench doubles as a way to release all lashing devices.
What holds the trolleys in place inside the trailer?
Four fixed position lashing winches with 2” straps are used to hold the trolleys against their respective rubber bump stops during transport. The lashing winches are mounted directly to the trailer chassis not just the floor, providing maximum strength.
How do I get my car onto the trolleys?
With the 2 trolleys parked together at the end of the gate extension, you use the provided aluminum extruded ramps to simply drive onto the trolleys.
How do I get my car out of the trailer?
Position your trailer with the nose slightly elevated. Attach the Rail Ryder-supplied leash to the rear trolley. Simply pull on the leash while releasing the winch for the first 4 or 5 feet and then gravity will take over. The leash eliminates the need to push, pull or tug on the car.
How much does a Rail Ryder system cost?
Check out our Pricing Page.
Can I use my existing winch?
Yes, however, you may want to upgrade to a modern trailer winch with synthetic rope which we can supply. Many winches are intended for recovery purposes and don’t work well as trailer winches.
Why do you recommend synthetic rope over wire rope?
Because the synthetic rope has no memory. It does not grow or unwind on the spool when tension isn’t present. It always stays neat and orderly on the spool and does not destroy itself.
How much weight does the Rail Ryder system add to the trailer?
450 – 475 pounds.
Is Rail Ryder available as a DIY kit?
No, professional installation needs to be done at our installation center.
What alloy are your extrusions?
6061-T6
What is the country of origin for your product?
Rail Ryder is American made, using local vendors and machine shops.
How do I remove the trolleys if I want to use my trailer for a purpose other than car transport?
The trolleys can be simply lifted off anywhere outside the trailer.
My headers drag in my current trailer. Will Rail Ryder eliminate that?
The clearance issue, with headers, oil pans, low body panels at the transition point, is no longer a concern.
What if I can’t unload on a hard surface?
Carry four 12″ x 12″ plywood squares to place under the dock bumpers to distribute the load.
Do I need to carry a selection of wood blocks and planks like I do in my current trailer?
No, the low 4° loading angle eliminates all need for carrying a selection of boards.
Can you assist me in the process of ordering a new trailer?
Yes, we work with several trailer manufacturers. We can make suggestions or work with the manufacturer of your choice.
